Karador, Ghost Chieftain

Asked by mrhazeyo 3 years ago

Is his "during each of your turns, you can play a creature spell from your graveyard" a triggered ability?

My overall question would be could I use Lithoform's copy a triggered ability with it.

No, Karador, Ghost Chieftain's ability is a static ability and can't be copied with Lithoform Engine. It modifies the rules so that you are allowed to cast one creature from your graveyard per turn. It is in effect any time Karador is in play, and it does not use the stack.

To further illustrate Polaris's answer:

  • Activated abilities usually are written [cost]:[effect]
  • Triggered abilities are written with "When/Whenever/At..."

Since none of Karador, Ghost Chieftain's abilities are described by the above criteria, it has no triggered or activated abilities for Lithoform Engine to copy.

Relevant Comprehensive Rules:

603.1. Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as “[When/Whenever/At] [trigger condition or event], [effect]. [Instructions (if any).]”

602.1. Activated abilities have a cost and an effect. They are written as “[Cost]: [Effect.] [Activation instructions (if any).]”
