Kaalia and her baddest servant unblocked?

Asked by Warxuaroz 7 years ago

I am facing Kaalia of the Vast and the opponent is attacking with her and puts Master of Cruelties on board with her ability. I do have potential blockers but they all share a colour: white. My opponent uses Faith's Shield on the demon and says 'white'. Can my opp do this in declare attackers step on this creature? It's clear it is immoral, but is it legal?

Yes. Kaalia's trigger occurs during the declare attackers step. There's a round of priority before the game moves to the declare blockers step, so your opponent has an opportunity to cast spells before you have a chance to block. Cruel (pun partially intentional), but legal.

The short answer is yes.

Priority passes around during both attacker and blocker steps, anytime an ability is put on the stack, whenever a spell is cast, etc. so your opponent can cast during this step.

I've seen this done even worse with Rogue's Passage.

It received a look of disgust from most of the table.

If you're having problems with this kind of thing, Trap Runner is a fantastic card in white to stop nonsense like this.
(best way to fight nonsense is with silliness... Master of Cruelties comes in for the kill, and smacks his head on a tree branch.)
