Is a creature land still a nonland?

Asked by garrro01 8 years ago

I understand that if a land becomes a creature it could be killed by say Doom Blade. But would a card like Embargo effect it since it says non land?

For example I know it would be safe from Planar Outburst do to the wording being nonland creature.

A creature land is still a land, so effects that specify "nonland" like Embargo will not affect them.

So as long as it says nonland I'm good? I'm working on building a commander deck around Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper

Yes. When something says "nonX" it only cares that it does or does not have quality "X". An effect looking for "land or not land" sees that the card is a land, it doesn't matter what else it is.

A creature land would not be a valid target for, or be affected by, any effects that specify "noncreature" or "nonland" as with Embargo and Woodfall Primus. They are valid targets for effects that specify either "creature" or "land" like Doom Blade, Stone Rain, Wrath of God and Armageddon.
