Iona, Shield of Emeria and spells with Epic

Asked by Pilz_753 9 years ago

I cast Enduring Ideal. It resolves and I put an Enchantment onto the battlefield. On his turn my opponent casts Iona, Shield of Emeria and chooses white. Back on my turn the Epic ability of Enduring Ideal triggers. My question now is, do I cast Enduring Ideal's Epic copy a or does it work like Storm and I just put it on the stack? I'm pretty sure it works that way but I just want clarification.

Thank you in advance

The copies are not cast. You are putting a copy onto the stack, and Iona, Shield of Emeria will not impact the Epic effect.

Copies of spells are made on the stack and are not cast. If the effect does not explicitly mention casting then there is no casting going on.

This is distinct from an effect such as Spellweaver Helix, which copies the card, not the spell, and then has you cast it. It's all in the details.

For reference:

706.10 To copy a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isnt cast and a copy of an activated ability isnt activated. ...

Ok, thanks. I already was fairly sure it worked that way but the clarification is nice.
