Interaction with legion loyalist

Asked by likasumbody 5 years ago

Hi,

If I attack with 4 1/1 goblin tokens and Legion Loyalist and my opponent responds with Lightning Bolt on the legion loyalist, does his trample and first strike ability get removed from the tokens remaining in attack position?

Legion Loyalist 's ability still resolves. Once you declare all your attackers in your example, the Loyalist's battalion ability triggers and gets put onto the stack. Killing the Loyalist after this point won't make the game back up and undo the trigger. If your opponent wants to stop the Loyalist's ability from happening then they would need to kill it before you declare attackers.

there isn't really an "attack position" in MTG. as for your question, removing the source of an ability does not remove the ability from the stack. if your creatures have already attacked, then Legion Loyalist will trigger, and the effect will resolve (and stay resolved) even if Legion Loyalist leaves the battlefield. your opponent can however, Lightning Bolt the Legion Loyalist before it is declared as an attacker, to stop the effect from triggering in the first place.
