Indestructibility and Planeswalkers

Asked by Profet93 8 years ago

Board State: I have Avacyn, Angel of Hope and a planeswalker out with 4 loyalty counters on it.

My opponent attacks my planeswalker with a creature that is 4/4. Assuming I don't block it, will the planeswalker die because it's loyalty counters were removed, or do they not get removed because of indestructibility?

The planeswalker, although indestructible, still takes damage. Damage results in the removal of loyalty counters. And if the planeswalker ends up with 0 counters on it, it will be placed in the graveyard. This is not destruction, and Avacyn won't protect against it.

Indestructible doesn't stop things from taking damage, only from being destroyed by lethal damage.

No problem. Been a while since I was on here, was glad to be able to help.

One of the state based actions is to check if a planeswalker has 0 loyalty counters on it. If so, it is put into its owner's graveyard per the SBA. This isn't destruction, nor sacrifice. It simply goes to the 'yard, and indestructibility will do nothing to stop this.
