Ilharg, the Raze-Boar and theros gods interaction

Asked by koylucumert 4 years ago

So how does Ilharg, the Raze-Boar interact with theros gods, lets give Purphoros, God of the Forge as the example case.lets say i have ilharg on the board with no other devotion to red. I attack with it,put purphoros from my hand to the battlefield. It isnt a creature so it doesnt deal damage. And then what? Does it return to my hand? Ilharg says "return that CREATURE to your hand" but purphoros isnt a creature at the time.

Even though it says creature, it means "the permanent put on the battlefield by this ability". You will still have to return the Purphoros to hand, provided it remained on the battlefield till the end of turn. The corner case of the card put by Ilharg not being a creature is so little (I think licids and Theros gods are among the few examples I can think of), that writing anything other than creature would not make sense.
