If Mimeoplasm enters as a copy of Rona, can you cast the cards exiled as Mimeoplasm entered?

Asked by PureBerserker7 4 years ago

I was thinking about putting back together my old Mimeoplasm deck, when going through my cards I found Rona, Disciple of Gix and started thinking about the interaction between the two cards, specifically that of rona's ability to cast cards exiled with her, and whether mimeoplasm would count the cards he exiles since it happens as he is entering the battlefield as a copy of Rona, Disciple of Gix.

I was unable to find anything that answered this particular question, but found some threads that served to provide conflicting answers as to whether or not something like this effect would work with different cards.

So to put it simply, if The Mimeoplasm enters as a copy of Rona, Disciple of Gix due to his ability which changes how he enters, exiling Rona, Disciple of Gix, and any other creature card from a graveyard, does the ability of Rona to cast nonland spell exiled with her allow Mimeoplasm to play those cards he exiled as he entered?

Please link all cards in your question using double brackets so that people know what cards do.

The Mimeoplasm

Rona, Disciple of Gix

Rona, Disciple of Gix has what are known as "linked abilities". The cards you are allowed to play via the second ability are only the cards exiled by the first. You will not be able to cast cards that you exiled via The Mimeoplasm 's ability to your Rona copy's second ability.

607.1. An object may have two abilities printed on it such that one of them causes actions to be taken or objects or players to be affected and the other one directly refers to those actions, objects, or players. If so, these two abilities are linked: the second refers only to actions that were taken or objects or players that were affected by the first, and not by any other ability.
