If I search my library for a swamp, can I grab any land that taps for black mana?

Two part question here. If I search my library for a swamp, say with Liliana of the Dark Realms +1 ability, can I grab something like a Cabal Coffers? I'm asking because a very experienced friend has told me that multi-colored lands can be used this way, for example, if I have a card that says, search your library for a forest and I have a multi-colored land that taps for black, green, and white, because it taps for green he says it's partially considered a forest, and therefore can be pulled, is this actually the case?

The exact scenario you named is not the case. There are some non-basic lands that have basic subtypes. The main ones are the ABUR duals (Scrubland) and the shocks(Godless Shrine). There are some other cards that have basic land types and are not basics, like Dryad Arbor. To determine if you can find non-basics with cards that look for a type of land you need to look at the type line and see if the land qualifies.

Land is actually a card type, and swamp is a sub-type.

So when you trigger to search a swamp ie. Liliana of the Dark Realms you are basically looking for 'Land - Swamp'

Badlands

Bayou

Blood Crypt

Godless Shrine

Leechridden Swamp

Overgrown Tomb

Scrubland

Smoldering Marsh

Snow-Covered Swamp

Sunken Hollow

Swamp

Underground Sea

Watery Grave
