I think I found how to enchant Progenitus!

Asked by TheRedGoat 7 years ago

If I understand if correctly, Progenitus can't be targeted by anything at all, but when cards don't explicitly say target then this gets around that type of effect. Like of Council's Judgment would be one of the only targeted removal spells that could get rid of the hydra.

So saying though, with the way that Kitsune Mystic is worded, I should be able to take any aura card on the field and move it onto "Progo". Right?

If so, this allows me to fulfill the (admittedly pointless) dream of (technically) bestowing Chromanticore onto Progenitus. Thus becoming the envy of all Magic players ever.

In all reality, the best card I can think of to abuse this with would be of course Eldrazi Conscription, but it does raise one more question. How many "cheat auras in" cards are out there?

Protection means DEBT. The Progenitus has protection from being:

  • Damaged by anything
  • Enchanted or Equipped by anything
  • Blocked by anything
  • Targeted by anything

Auras, when cast, require a target. When auras enter the battlefield via any other means or are moved by an effect, they do not target. This can be used to enchant targets with shroud or hexproof.

So, Autumn-Tail, Kitsune Sage, Academy Rector, Open the Vaults, blinking the aura with a Flickerwisp are various ways to get the aura onto any other permanent without explicitly targeting it.

However, the E part of debt intervenes and says:

702.16c A permanent or player with protection cant be enchanted by Auras that have the stated quality. Such Auras attached to the permanent or player with protection will be put into their owners graveyards as a state-based action. (See rule 704, State-Based Actions.)

Unfortunately, Progenitus cannot wear auras.
