How exactly would the experience counters work on miizzix

Me and my buds have been having a disagreement about this i know that for you to get a experience counter Mizzix of the Izmagnus has to be on the field, but for her ability to work does she have to be on the field?

Yes - unless specified otherwise, creature's abilities only function while they are on the field, this includes your commander. Mizzix cannot reduce the cost of your spells while in the Command Zone.

There are only 2 cards that specifically interact and have abilities that function in the command zone: Derevi, Empyrial Tactician and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic
