How does Winding Constrictor and Energy counters work?

Asked by mickslash77 7 years ago

So if I have Winding Constrictor out and the field and play something like Attune with Aether would I get 4 Energy or 3? How does that go through? Also if I attack with Bristling Hydra and decide to use 6 energy to give it two +1/+1 counters would it trigger twice from Winding Constrictor adding 4 +1/+1 counters instead? Just wondering how this all plays out.

Winding Constrictor simply allows you to add an additional counter of any type you or your creatures/artifacts are receiving for each instance of placing a certain counter.

Attune with Aether with Constrictor out would give you 3 Energy counters all together.

Paying the six energy to give Bristling Hydra two +1/+1 counters is seen as a single instance of giving Hydra counters, so you would be placing 3 +1/+1 counters total.

You would put 4 +1/+1 counters on Bristling Hydra in your example. If an ability is activated multiple times, each one of those activations will resolve separately, not simultaneously. In your example there will be two separate events where you're adding a counter to the Hydra. Winding Constrictor will affect both of them.
