How does the interaction with Sphinx's Tutelage work with cards like Fascination?

Asked by ScratchButt 8 years ago

With Sphinx's Tutelage, whenever you draw a card you mill target opponent for two cards. If you play cards like Day's Undoing or Fascination does it play out like...

Example 1: Both you and opponent draw seven cards, then they mill 14.

or

Example 2: You and opponent draw one, they mill two. Then you both draw the second, they mill two again, and so on.

Any clarification would be swell.

Thanks in advance!

The drawing of cards all happens at once, then for each card you draw, Sphinx's Tutelage will trigger. So if you Fascination for 5, each of you will draw 5 cards, and 5 triggers of tutelage will occur. So they will mill 2, if they match one color and aren't land, mill 2 more and repeat, once that stops, they will repeat that process 4 times. Note that with Day's Undoing the "End the turn" aspect will exile all the triggers.

Day's Undoing, specifically, doesn't work with Sphinx's Tutelage, but that's only because of the rules about what happens when an effect from a spell or ability ends the turn.

So let's look at Fascination. Sphinx's Tutelage will trigger for each draw, but those triggers will wait to be put onto the stack until Fascination is finished resolving. Each player will draw X cards, then you'll process the X mill triggers on your opponent.

Your right about Day's Undoing, wasn't reading that. But thanks you both for helping me out with that!
