how does targeting work with cards that affect multiple creatures?

hey! So I'm running Horobi, Death's Wail and I was wondering does the card need to say "Target" in it? Because I kept seeing Sudden Spoiling and wondered how that worked! Like would cards like Mutilate or Damnation?

There are cards that target multiple creatures though. I'd suggest Touch of Darkness and Cauldron of Souls for a Horobi deck.

None of the cards you mentioned work with Horobi. Horobi's ability triggers when a creature becmes a target. Sudden spoiling's target is a player, , while damnation and mutilate do not target. A spell like Virulent Swipe would trigger Horobi's ability.
