How does Sands of Time work with Sands of Time?

Asked by UniqueUserID 8 years ago

Sands of Time is a pretty interesting artifact. I've been testing a deck that uses Mothdust Changeling and Disciple of Deceit for some easy tutoring and control.

However what happens when TWO Sands of Time are on the field? I'm assuming unless the card has a way tap/untap it will resolve using the stack and happen twice, so every card remains in same state locking everything down.

Can I use mana dorks or cards like Mothdust Changeling during these steps to produce extra mana/effects and then become untapped?

At the beginning of your upkeep, they both trigger together but resolve one at a time.

In response to each instance, you certainly can tap your creatures or other permanents to get their effects so they will become untapped when the following instance resolves.

When the first one resolves, everything tapped will be untapped and vice versa. If you don't do anything after this point, the second will resolve and pretty much undo what the first ability just did.

Oh! Final sub question!

So with 2 Sands of Time both players can DOUBLE their mana?

So Sands of Time one untaps all the tapped lands, now I can tap my lands for mana then Sands of Time will untap these newly tapped lands. Double mana?

Yes you can do this.

But any and all mana automatically empties from your mana pool whenever you transition steps or phases.
