How does rebound work on Emerge Unscathed

Asked by tasondag 8 years ago

Thanks in advance! If I used the rebound effect on Emerge Unscathed and I got protection from color of my choice during my next turn, how does that play out? For example: if I attacked opponent, would his creatures of that color not be able to attack in return if he chose to defend?

Emerge Unscathed doesn't give you protection from colour, it targets a creature and rebound doesn't change that.
It is possible to give players protection from colour and in those cases creatures of that colour can attack but the damage they deal is prevented.

Hey Draugo, sorry I goofed my question. When rebound comes into effect, how is my target creature protected? For example: If I attack and my opponent defends, does his defending creature not do combat damage to my protected creature?

Protection follows the DEBT acronym. Things with protection from X cannot be
D - Damaged by sources with X
E - Enchanted/Equipped by sources with X
B - Blocked by sources with X
T - Targeted by sources with X

To answer your question, it depends on when you cast Emerge Unscathed. If you cast it before the Declare Blockers step, your opponent's creatures cannot even block your creature due to B. If you cast it after the Declare Blockers step, your creatures will be blocked but take no damage due to D.

If Emerge Unscathed was cast as a result of the Rebound effect, B is relevant and your opponent will not even be able to block your creature.
