How does Combat Celebrant work?

Asked by Clintone 4 years ago

Let's say I have 1 Prodigal Sorcerer and 2 Combat Celebrant cards in play. My opponent has 1 Runeclaw Bear in play. I first tap the sorcerer to deal 1 damage to Runeclaw Bear. Then I attack with both Combat Celebrant cards. Can I use one of their exertion abilities to untap the Prodigal Sorcerer to re-tap it to deal 1 more damage to the Runeclaw Bear, killing the Runeclaw Bear before it can block either of the Combat Celebrant cards?

After using the Combat Celebrant ability to untap my cards and allow a second attack phase, can I also use the second Combat Celebrant card's ability to provide a third attack, or is that not allowed because they're both the same card type?

1/ Yes - the Combat Celebrant ability triggers in the declare attackers step, so you can use the Sorceror again before blocks are declared.

2/ Yes, the card type does not matter.

To be clear about the last point: whenever a card uses its own name in its rules text it's only talking about itself, unless it specifically says something like "a card named N". Combat Celebrant doesn't check to see if any other cards named Combat Celebrant have been exerted this turn. It only looks at itself.
