How does boon of safety and boros reckoner work?

If I have Boon of Safety, then cast it on Boros Reckoner, would it still trigger the ability of Boros Reckoner whenever he is damaged?

It wouldn't. If a creature (or planeswalker) with a shield counter on it would take damage, instead you prevent that damage and remove the counter. The damage is prevented, so Boros Reckoner did not take any damage to trigger its ability.
