How does Blood Moon interact with Ashaya, Soul of the Wild

Asked by Delphen7 2 years ago

Ashaya's ability makes her a land, which means Blood Moon could affect her. I'm assuming that order played doesn't matter (right?). So say Ashaya enters as a land or Blood Moon enters while Ashaya is on the field. Blood Moon will remove all of Ashaya's non mana abilities, meaning Ashaya loses the text that makes her a land, so she stops being a land, so Blood Moon stops affecting her, meaning she gains her abilities, meaning Blood Moon affects her again... Does that work the way I'm thinking, and if so, will it draw the game?

Both effects apply in layer 4, so they are applied in time stamp order unless a dependency exists. So you are correct that the order they're played in doesn't matter, because there is a dependency: Ashaya, Soul of the Wild 's ability changes what permanents Blood Moon 's ability would apply to, so you apply that first. With regard to whether Blood Moon would remove her ability, if Ashaya 's ability is applied first, it's already applying so even removing it doesn't stop it from applying. If it's applied after Blood Moon , then it won't be removed because she isn't a land. This does mean that the dependancy is only in one direction and you turn all the creatures into lands before turning them into mountains.

As for what Blood Moon does, it removes all the abilities, not just non-mana abilities. Ashaya, Soul of the Wild will no longer be a forest and no longer tap for , but will be a mountain. As for whether you can tap for , that depends on whether she'll survive long enough for you to get priority. She loses the ability that sets her power and toughness, so unless there's an effect like Gaea's Anthem or she has a +1/+1 counter, she'll be put into the graveyard and all the creatures that were being turned into mountains with no abilities will go back to being normal creatures immediately after Blood Moon (or her, depending on the order) hits the board.

Neotrup Thanks! That makes sense. I also forgot that Ashaya's power/toughness was an ability.
