Herald of Leshrac - Upkeep?

Asked by nibsey 7 years ago

I would like clarifiaction on how the upkeep for Herald of Leshrac actually works, please?

The way I see it, I need to take control of an opponents land each turn, and sac Leshrac when no more opponent land is available?

Does the upkeep include land I have already aquired? or can I sacrifiace newly aquired land through Zuran Orb to gain life, without having to sac him?

Many thanks, Nibsey

Cumulative upkeep is short hand for "At the beginning of your upkeep, place an age counter on this permanent, then pay the described cost X times, where X is the number of age counters. If you can't, sacrifice this permanent". Taking opponents lands is not really a normal cost, but hey.

So, every upkeep, you will put another age counter on it and "acquire" that many lands from opponents - first upkeep 1 land, second turn 2 lands, and so on.

If someone say Go for the Throat'ed Herald of Lesharc, you can activate Zuran Orb as much as needed to sacrifice all of the opponents lands and give them back nothing.

To answer the last part of your question, you cannot acquire lands you already control, but you could acquire lands you own that have been taken from you. The cost is "Gain control of a land you don't control," rather than "Gain control of a land you don't own."
