Handling Morphs Postgame

Asked by Delphen7 1 year ago

8thPlaceDave put out a comedy video where he won with an illegal morph (He morphed a mountain), and it has me slightly paranoid now.

If my opponent has a morph creature, can I ask to see the front face postgame? If no, how do I guarantee my opponent's not cheating (Aside from benefit of the doubt)? How do we handle if it is an illegal morph?

I'm by no means a rules expert, but your post got me curious. I found this in the comprehensive rules so it looks like there's no need to worry :)

708.9. If a face-down permanent or a face-down component of a merged permanent moves from the battlefield to any other zone, its owner must reveal it to all players as they move it. If a face-down spell moves from the stack to any zone other than the battlefield, its owner must reveal it to all players as they move it. If a player leaves the game, all face-down permanents, face-down components of merged permanents, and face-down spells owned by that player must be revealed to all players. At the end of each game, all face-down permanents, face-down components of merged permanents, and face-down spells must be revealed to all players.

Interestingly this includes revealing manifested creatures, but not foretold spells, though there's less benefit to exiling a card from hand you can't cast.
