Flood Counters + Thespian's Stage
Asked by Pedrodamus 7 years ago
If my Urborg has a flood counter on it from Quicksilver Fountain, if I copy the land with Thespian's Stage, am I getting a copy of Urborg or will it just be a plain old island?
The effect turning Urborg into an island is part of the static effect of Quicksilver Fountain, so it doesn't change the copyable values of Urborg. Thespian's Stage will still turn into an Urborg.
The only times the copiable values of a card change are when it's become a copy of something else (also when they're face down, but that's another story), so copies of copies are whatever the first thing copied is. If you were to somehow make your Urborg into a copy of an island, then use TS on it, then TS would turn into a plain old island. (I have no idea how that game state could arise, honestly.)
Also, I'm assuming you're talking about Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, not Urborg. Note that the "all lands are swamps in addition" ability stops functioning when Quicksilver Fountain is out and it has a flood counter, since it's being just an island.

Thanks guys. We were in a edh match and the player running Fountain didn't fully know how it functioned with a copy effect from something like Thespian's Stage (neither did the other guy or I lol) and we agreed that it remained Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth regardless of it having a flood counter on it.

You may already know this, but just in case someone else out there is wondering: the effect of Quicksilver Fountain doesn't change a card's name or supertypes, so after Thespian's Stage's ability resolves you'll control two Legendary permanents named Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and will have to get rid of one of them.

Thespian's Stage will copy all copyable values, which is exactly what is written on the card.
It wont be an Island
