Flipping Chandra after she "dies" in combat?

Asked by Asterfix 8 years ago

I attack with Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh  Flip, blocked by a 3/3 and I play a red spell and then after combat damage is done I tap her for the 1 damage to flip her, would she transform?

If damage happens, she is already in the graveyard before you have any chance to try tapping her for 1 more damage.

Combat damage all happens simultaneously and damage can't be responded to by spells or activated abilites. Chandra will have 3 damage marked on her. Since she is a 2/2, she will be put into your graveyard as a state based action, before you get any chance to activate her ability.

Note: if you give her first/double strike, however, you can cast a red spell and untap her to use her ability during the first combat damage step. In this scenario, she would indeed be exiled and return to the battlefield transformed.

But to answer your question, no she would not transform.

That is an awesome suggestion! I was considering adding in a few first strike instants into my deck. Thank you very much.
