Flameshadow Conjuring ETB Interaction

Asked by Pedrodamus 1 year ago

If there's only 1 instant/sorcery in each of my opponents graveyards and i have a Diluvian Primordial enter and trigger Flameshadow Conjuring, will both the token copy and original have to target the same 3 instant and or sorceries? Or, can I have the ETBs resolve in such a way where the original enters and I put the ETB on the stack, respond to the Flameshadow trigger and pay the cost which creates a token copy and i put its ETB on the stack which i resolve first targeting the instants/sorceries in my opponents graveyards. The way i'm picturing this is , if my opponents respond to the spells i target with the copy ETB and they put additional instants in their bins, will i be able to target those with the original Primordial ETB that is still on the stack waiting to resolve after the copy's etb finishes resolving and exiles the original 3 spells from the bins?

The way you described it doesn't work. You have to choose targets for spells and abilities when you put them on the stack. So the original Diluvian Primordial's ability will have to have chosen targets before the token is even created.

To accomplish something similar, you could put the Flameshadow Conjuring trigger on the stack first and then the Diluvian Primordial trigger on top of it. You will cast the three spells in your opponent's GYs and then any spells cast in response will be in their GY when the token copy enters and it's ETB has to choose targets.

Ahhh, so i would allow the original Primordial's etb to fully resolve, casting the spells and allowing my opponents to respond, before allowing the Flameshadow trigger to resolve creating the token copy which would enter after any interactions take place with the original etb/spells and potentially seeing new things in the bin.

This was essentially interaction in a game late last night. There was a spell in each of my 2 opponent's bins. My Primordial entered , and i was trying to think of a way to have the token copy be able to choose from the spells that were chosen by the original, if countered, or new ones, because my opponent was giving away that he had interaction.

Well, i guess even if countered the spell would get exiled and wouldn't have been there for the clone to see when it etbs. I had a way to clone it again though and was able to cast a Firemind's Foresight off it
