Eye of Ugin and colorless mana symbols..

Asked by Metroid_Hybrid 8 years ago

I'm pretty sure this works, but I want to be absolutely sure, because Gatherer hasn't updated anything about Eye of Ugin concerning these symbols (that I know of)..

The cost reduction from Eye of Ugin can be applied to the "colorless" mana symbols found in Oath of the Gatewatch, correct? In a deck tech video with Jacob Baugh, he made the statement that Thought-Knot Seer can be a (ridiculous) Turn-2 play with Eye of Ugin & Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. This of course would only be valid if the previous statement is true, and I hope it is..

Eye of Ugin, alongside any mana cost reducers, only reduces generic costs. So if I have an Eye of Ugin in play and I want to cast Thought-Knot Seer, I would need to be able to produce to cast it.

That T2 play is possible though with double Eldrazi Temples, just not with Eye of Ugin + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth .

Eye of Ugin states, "colorless Eldrazi spells you cast cost less to cast." This reduces the generic cost of the spells. Because generic costs and colorless mana are not the same thing, the cost reduction cannot apply to colorless costs ().

Not quite. Eye of Ugin only reduces generic mana from Eldrazi costs.

However, you can still turn 2 Thought-Knot Seer with Eye. You just need an Eldrazi Temple instead of an Urborg.

One last thing to be clear..

So Eldrazi Temple's second ability can effectively read : add to your mana pool?
