EXACT combat steps and battle order.

Asked by Va1mar 9 years ago

So, there was recently a spirited duel between some friends and I. These duels usually come pretty close. One of which came down to a battle order. I was attacking player b directly with a flying creature and player c with a High Priest of Penance.Player b had a card that let him not take damage or something. So I was banking on the high priest of penance destroying the card that was keeping him alive. But there were conflicting opinions on the combat orders, and I was unable to find anything explaining the process intricately enough. I was under the impression that combat between creatures resolved before direct combat. And, that the attacking player chose the battle orders (if there are multiple attackers and blockers.

There is no 'battle order'; all combat damage is dealt at the same time. The flying creature and High Priest of Penance (along with any creatures that are blocking them) will deal their combat damage simultaneously.

From the Comprehensive Rules:

  • 510.2. Second, all combat damage thats been assigned is dealt simultaneously. This turn-based action doesnt use the stack. No player has the chance to cast spells or activate abilities between the time combat damage is assigned and the time its dealt.
