Escalate plus Tamiyo, Field Researcher

So say I used Borrowed Grace while Tamiyo, Field Researcher's Final is in effect. Would escalate be free? Or would I have to pay?

The mana cost, as cited by Tamiyo, Field Researcher, only refers to what's in the top right corner of the card. Anything that alters that, whether an alternate cost or cost increase is not covered by Borrowed Grace.

Note that the pay method via the emblem is an alternate cost. You cannot apply 2 alternate costs to the same spell, you must choose one or the other.
Also, nothing can "alter" or change the mana cost of a card. That will always be there even if you cast said card without paying its mana cost. The only exception to this is spells with 
in their cost.

You would have to pay. Escalate is an additional cost. There is a formula for casting spells: Mana cost + Additional costs - cost reductions = What you pay.
With your emblem out, the formula for Borrowed Grace would be:
0 (ie Free) +
- Nothing = 
to pay.
Her emblem, and Omniscience for another example, only affects the "mana cost" portion of the formula, not the additional costs or cost reductions parts.
