Enchantment Creatures and Hexproof

Asked by koolking 3 years ago

I have an Enchantment Creature in play. I give my enchantments shroud (i.e. [c]Sterling Grove[/c]. Can my E.C. still be the target of creature spells?

TIA, kk

Sterling Grove

Creature spells don't target. I will assume you mean spell that target creatures such as Doom Blade. No, if a permanent has shroud it can not be the target of any spells or abilities. It doesn't matter if it has gained shroud due to one characteristic of the card and would be a legal target of the spell/ability due to another.

Gidgetimer, you're mostly correct. There are creature spells that target. Currently, only creatures with Mutate that were cast for their Mutate cost target.

That said, something with Shroud can't be the target of spells or abilities. So, the enchantment creature with Shroud can't be the target of a Mutate spell.

Forgot about the addition of mutate.

There's also bestow, which the card is cast as an aura instead of a creature. All enchantment auras target, so anything with shroud could not have a bestowed aura placed on them either. That's why hexproof is definitively better

Bestowed cards aren't creature spells though. If you cast a spell for bestow it can be Negated and can't be Bone to Ashed.
