enchantement?

Asked by ThrillingThriller 7 years ago

I'm looking for some answers about some questions i have on enchantments
For cards like Daxos the Returned,Daxos's Torment, Sphere of Safety and Open the Vaults are they work if it's an enchantment artifact like Spear of Heliod or an enchantment creatures Nighthowler or do they only count/activate regular enchantment?

As long as the card has at least one of qualities, the ability will trigger. All cards described above will trigger daxos, because they have the word "enchantment" in their type line.

Well, Open the Vaults won't trigger Daxos the Returned because it brings the enchantments into play, not casts them. But that's not really what you were asking. The four cards you asked about all care about enchantment artifacts and enchantement creatures. Note the Constellation ability even appears on enchantment creatures like Doomwake Giant. Both Daxos's Torment and Sphere of Safety even care about enchantment planeswalkers and enchantment lands which will exist when Enchanted Evening is in play. Daxos the Returned will not because they won't be enchantments on the stack and Open the Vaults won't because they aren't enchantments in the graveyard.

How are they not enchantment all the time when the typing says enchantment creature and enchantment artifact ?

"not enchantments all the time" refers to "enchantment planeswalkers and enchantment lands which will exist when Enchanted Evening is in play". Cards like Spear of Heliod are indeed enchantments all the time

Your question is really vague and there could be multiple things you want addressed here, but I'll do my best to cover everything:

  • Daxos the Returned has a triggered ability that triggers whenever you cast an enchantment. That is, pay their casting cost and put them onto the stack, after which they will resolve and move to the battlefield. Usually you will be casting enchantments from your hand. Every time this ability triggers, you get an experience counter. Spear of Heliod and Nighthowler will both trigger this ability when you cast them, because they are enchantments. It's doesn't matter that they have additional types. However, putting either of them into play using Open the Vaults will NOT trigger Daxos, because the only spell that's been cast is Open the Vaults, which is a sorcery. Lastly, activating Daxos's second ability also will not trigger his first ability, because the token enchantment creature was not cast.

  • Daxos's Torment has a trigger that cares about enchantments entering the battlefield under your control. This will trigger from Spear of Heliod and Nighthowler, since they are enchantments, and will also trigger when Daxos's Torment comes into play, when any enchantments are put into play by Open the Vaults, and whenever Daxos makes an enchantment creature token.

  • Sphere of Safety counts the number of enchantments you control for it's ability. This includes Spear of Heliod, Nighthowler, and any tokens made by Daxos, since they all have the enchantment type.

  • Open the Vaults puts every card with the enchantment type from your graveyard. (In magic objects are referred to differently depending on the zone they're in. On the battlefield enchantments are referred to simply as enchantments; on the stack they are referred to as enchantment spells; and in your hand, library, graveyard, or in exile they are referred to as enchantment cards. This is an important rules distinction that often get overlooked, and applies to all other card types.) Open the Vaults will return Spear of Heliod and Nighthowler, because they have the enchantment type printed on their cards, making them enchantments in all zones. Again, the fact that they also have other types doesn't matter. (There aren't many good examples of enchantments that wouldn't get returned by Open the Vaults, because there aren't many non-enchantment cards that become enchantments on the battlefield, but like Neotrup said, if you have Enchanted Evening out, Open the Vaults won't return every card in your graveyard to play, but just the ones that actually have "enchantment" printed on the card.)

Does that answer your question?
