Eater of Days and the Strionic Resonator

Asked by MrWar 9 years ago

Hi,

I would like to know if I would be able to target an opponent with Eater of Days ' triggered ability with Strionic Resonator .

A couple of follow up questions too;

  1. if I have 2 Resonator's and paid for their cost and target an opponent does that mean they loose 4 turns?

  2. If I have a Torpor Orb on the battlefield and I bring out the Eater of Days Can I still copy the ability even though the orb would stop it initally but not the copy?

While you may choose a new target for the copy of the ability with Strionic Resonator , Eater of Days 's triggered ability has no target. An effect in Magic only targets something if it says "target" in its text. Eater of Days says 'you', referring to the controller of the effect.

Strionic Resonator can only copy an existing triggered ability on the stack. Torpor Orb will prevent the ability from ever triggering, so there will be nothing for Strionic Resonator to copy.

  1. No, you can't make an opponent lose two turns with a copy of Eater of Days ' ETB trigger, because the ability does not target, so there's no way to choose your opponent as the new target.
  2. If you copy the ability twice, you'd lose six sequential turns.
  3. No. Since Eater of Days ' ability never triggers in the first place because of Torpor Orb , there's nothing there to copy.
