Does the BFZ awaken mechanic turn a land into a creature card?

Infinite Obliteration requires you to name a creature card. Does the awaken ability of cards such as Coastal Discovery turn the land into a creature card? Having trouble finding any rules that apply to this specifically. Thank you for your time.

No. You will not be able to name Island, since Island is not a creature card, but a land card. Awaken spells like Coastal Discovery change the properties of the card on the battlefield, but it will not let you name the animated land for Infinite Obliteration.

That being said, would you be able to use Eradicate in the above scenario instead?

Yes, the trick with Eradicate works. Because Eradicate just says to look for "cards" with the same name as the exiled creature and not "creature cards", it can find anything with the same name.

Eradicate would work in this scenario. It's a similar situation to the Liquimetal Coating + Splinter combo.

Now, a little extra note for the original question. A creature card is only a card with the type creature printed on it. (See Runeclaw Bear. Similarly to a sorcery having the type sorcery (see Ponder) and a land with the type land (see Temple of the False God). There are few exceptions, such as Dryad Arbor, where it has both a land and a creature type printed on it.

Since it says Creature "card" you can't name a basic land bc they aren't printed as creatures. But if it says target creature you could once the land becomes one.

Makes sense.
