Does Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker and Leyline of Singularity create an infinite loop?
Asked by jankietankie 10 years ago
On the battlefield I have Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker , Leyline of Singularity and Perilous Myr . During my second main phase I summon another Perilous Myr . Due to the legendary rule one Perilous Myr goes directly to the graveyard. But at the end of turn, Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker returns Perilous Myr to the battlefield. At that point legendary rule kicks in again and one Perilous Myr goes back into the graveyard. Does this only happen once or does it keep looping?

The Oracle text for Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker
reads "at the beginning of the next end step." As the Perilous Myr
dies in the end step, it will be returned at the beginning of the next one (ie. in your opponent's turn).
This will, of course, cause a Myr to be sacrificed due to the Legend Rule in that end step too, and so on.
In short, it does create an infinite loop, but a slower one than I think you were thinking of.
You will only get one return/sacrifice sequence per turn.

Guess I have to remember to read the oracle text. Thank you KrosanTusker

@KrosanTusker: Remember that nothing is sacrificed to the legend rule. The permanents are simply placed into their owner's graveyard.
