Does Ruxa work with enchantments?

Asked by Quickspell 3 years ago

If I enchant say Barbtooth Wurm with say Whip Silk or Bear Umbra , does the Wurm still work with Ruxa, Patient Professor ? Or does the Wurm now has an ability?

The two auras you named grant abilities to the enchanted creature. They will not benefit from Ruxa. If instead the enchantment had abilities but did not grant any, such as Freed from the Real , Ruxa would still apply to the enchanted creature.

Whip Silk has been errata’d to grant Reach to the enchanted creature. Bear Umbra grants the triggered ability of untapping lands on attack. Because of this, they will not be affected by Ruxa.

Note an additional ruling for Muraganda Petroglyphs :

3/19/2021 If an effect says that an affected creature “has” or “gains” an ability, Muraganda Petroglyphs won’t apply to that creature because it has gained an ability. If an effect simply says that something is true of an affected creature (such as “target creature can’t be blocked this turn”) then that effect isn’t causing the creature to gain an ability.

Thank you guys! What would I be without you? :)

The +1/+1 that Ruxa gives is not an ability though, just an altered state? A replacement effect for their default stats? Which means that Colossification works but for the reasons you named Mythic Proportions doesn't, is that correct?

The ability that gives the creatures +1/+1 is an ability. It is a static ability that is always active on the battlefield. But, having that +1/+1 is not itself an ability, it’s just modifying the power and toughness of the creatures. It’s not an altered state per se.

Yes Colossification would work fine because having a buff to power in this way by itself is not an ability. However, because Mythic Proportions also grants trample (which most certainly is an ability) to the enchanted creature, that creature would no longer get the +1/+1.

Hello everybody,

I’m focus on a new Ruxa edh deck.

I appreciate your discuss about abilities.

Am i right if i play an equipment like ring of xathrid

Is it an ability for the equiped creature ?

The card doesn’t mention «has» or « gains »...

Also with heroic intervention... If i play it ... my vanilla creature will assign their damages as though they weren't blocked with Ruxa in play.

Thank you for clarification.
