Does Preacher target or does the opponent target?

Asked by carpecanum 7 years ago

Can the opponent who is choosing a creature for the Preacher's ability choose a target with protection from white, for example? Common sense says its the Preacher targeting even though the opponent chooses the target. But some people are weasels.

The target must be a legal target. It cannot have pro-white, hexproof, or shroud. You are correct that the Preacher is the source of the ability, and therefore all potential targets must be targetable for Preacher.

The player makes chooses what to target. Players make all choices in the game; cards are inanimate objects and can't choose anything. However, abilities like hexproof and protection care about the spell or the source of the ability.
