Does Pariah's Shield change quality/source of damage?

Asked by MickMacHugh2 7 years ago

If combat damage is redirected by Pariah's Shield, is it still considered combat damage when that is relevant, such as if it were equipped to a Fog Bank? Or is it now considered to be direct damage being dealt by Pariah's Shield? Also, will this change the effective color(s) of the source(s)? For example, If the shield was attached to a pro-Red creature and my opponent fired a Lightning Bolt at me, would the damage get prevented? Or would my creature need to have protection from artifacts instead? Thanks.

The damage does not change in any way, shape, or form. All it does is go towards the creature equipped with Pariah's Shield. So say you were attacked by an Invisible Stalker and you have Fog Bank equipped with Pariah's Shield. When the Stalker would go to deal combat damage to you, the Shield redirects the damage to Fog Bank instead.

Likewise, if you had an Auriok Champion equipped with the shield and your opponent targeted you with Lightning Bolt, the damage from the bolt would be redirected to the Auriok Champion and it's protection from Red would prevent the damage.
