Does Oketra's Monument tokens let me bounce my creatures when I play them with Cloudstone Curio?

Asked by MrHappy12321 5 years ago

If I have Oketra's Monument and Cloudstone Curio in play and I play a creature, does the token created by Oketra's Monument trigger Cloudstone Curio and let be bounce the creature I just played back to my hand? I'm trying to make an ETB heavy deck leveraging this interaction if it works.

No, because the monument's token ability triggers on cast and not entering the battlefield which means it resolves while your cast creature is still on the stack and not in play. Basically say you cast a Bishop's Soldier , then create a token from Oketra's Monument , then the token entering the battlefield triggers Cloudstone Curio 's ability and you may select another creature that is already in play to return to your hand and during all of this Bishop's Soldier is still on the stack. Basically you can never circumvent Oketra's Monument cast and not ET trigger even if you decide to use a creature with split second. :(

That said, the Curio can bounce anyone who makes tokens upon arrival - Cloudgoat Ranger , Sengir Autocrat , Broodmate Dragon ... you name it.

Thanks for the Answers guys, think I'm going to give up the deck but it was cool until I learned how the rules worked.

If you have card/ oketra's monument /card and card/ cloudstone curio / card in play with a card/ ornithopter /card and cast another card/ ornithopter /card or a card/ memnite /card you could use the token to bounce the previous creature and recast it having the new token bounce the one you just played and you can loop like that infinte tokens since your casting 0 drops.

Use double brackets like so:

[[Oketra's Monument]], [[Cloudstone Curio]], [[Ornithopter]], [[Memnite]]

Oketra's Monument , Cloudstone Curio , Ornithopter , Memnite

Yes. As long as you have two creature cards, you can use them to keep bouncing each other when the Warrior token triggers the Curio. Since the two creatures mentioned are 0 drops, you don't need an extra source of mana and can do this infinitely, and since the Curio's trigger is a may ability, you can end it at any time you need to.
