Yes, that works. You activate the untap ability, putting two copies of it on the stack thanks to Illusionist's Bracers. Now you have two abilities on the stack that will both untap Aphetto Alchemist. You let the first resolve, untapping the alchemist, and then tap it again to activate its Hermetic Study ability, which results in two damage thanks to Illusionist's Bracers. Finally, you let the second copy of "untap target creature or artifact" resolve, and end up with the same state as before (untapped alchemist and empty stack) but two damage has been dealt. Wash, rinse and repeat until the opponent is gone.
