Does Hissing Miasma resolve before combat damage?

Asked by nicochulo 6 years ago

I have a deck that uses Hissing Miasma to slowly damage the player (I also use other spells, but that's not important right now)

My question is: If someone with (for example) three lives swings for lethal with three creatures: Does the Hissing Miasma damage them first or do I die before it resolves?

According to the rule 508 of the Comprehensive rules, abilities that trigger when a creature is declared as attacking trigger before the 'declare blockers step'.

It's quite a big block of text, so i'll just leave the link here.

The key thing to know is that the game will only move to the next step or phase if everyone passes while the stack is empty. If there are any spells or abilities on the stack then they have to be processed first before the game can move on. Anything that triggers during the Declare Attackers step of combat will resolve during that step, before the Declare Blockers step can start.
