Does Hexproof negate the effects of the ordeals

Asked by shepherdofire 9 years ago

I'm making a theros born nyx deck and was wondering on the interaction between Aegis of the Gods and the ordeals.

If you control Aegis of the Gods, Hexproof means that "You can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control." That means that if you sacrifice an ordeal, say Ordeal of Purphoros, you could target yourself, but you can't be targeted by an opponent's Ordeal of Purphoros. The only other ordeal that targets is Ordeal of Erebos, but quite frankly I'm not sure why you'd target yourself with it anyways.

Bottom line, you having hexproof does not stop anything meaningful from happening.

Please link cards.

Ordeal of Thassa

Ordeal of Erebos

Ordeal of Heliod

Ordeal of Purphoros

Ordeal of Nylea

The only one of the ordeals that targets a player is Ordeal of Erebos. If your opponent has Aegis of the Gods then you would have to target yourself. There is no interaction with the other Ordeals.

Oops, I forgot that you can't target your opponent with Ordeal of Purphoros.

Remember that if you have to choose a target then you have to choose a valid target. If you have Aegis of the Gods and your opponent's Ordeal of Erebos triggers then they have to choose themselves as the target.
