Does Heartless Summoning ruin Fleshbag Marauder?
Asked by Psychonautical 9 years ago
If I cast a Fleshbag Marauder while I control a Heartless Summoning, can I still sacrifice him for his own effect, or does he die as a 2/0 before I get the option, forcing me to sacrifice another creature I may have?

Fleshbag Marauder's ability is a triggered ability. A creature dying for having 0 or less toughness is a state-based action. SBAs are performed before triggered abilities are placed onto the stack (long before they resolve), so your Fleshbag Marauder will be dead before its ability resolves. You'll have to sacrifice another creature.

You'd have to sacrifice another creature, for the reason you described.
