Does giving an opponent a Bronze Bombshell via having it equipped with Assault Suit cause the game to draw?

Asked by MagicalHacker 8 years ago

If I equip Assault Suit to a Bronze Bombshell, then give it to an opponent, does it cause an infinite loop of the creature triggering but being unable to be sacrificed?

Yes unless there is some way to stop the loop, the game ends in a draw.

This ability is a state trigger. Once it triggers, it won't trigger again while the ability is on the stack. If the triggered ability leaves the stack and the creature is still on the battlefield under the control of a player other than its owner, the ability will immediately trigger again.

This is true except in certain multiplayer formats

104.4b If a game thats not using the limited range of influence option (including a two-playergame) somehow enters a loop of mandatory actions, repeating a sequence of events with noway to stop, the game is a draw. Loops that contain an optional action dont result in a draw.

which basically means that only the players involved in the loop would leave the game and the rest would continue playing.

titanreaver, wouldn't the player who was given the creature be the only one who needs to leave the game because when a player dies, all of his permanents get exiled?

@ M a g i c a l H a c k e r: That is not how limited range of influence works. If a player draws the game, then the game ends for all players in their range of influence. The game ends in a draw for all of those players. The rest of the players keep playing the game (unless there is only one left, in which case that player wins the game).

By the way, yes, that means that there can be games with a winner and no losers. For example, in a game of Emperor, if one of the emperor causes the game to end in a draw, the game will be a draw for every player except the other emperor. The other empeor will be the only player left, and will win the game.

That said, it is worth mentioning that almost every game of magic does not use limited range of influence. In almost every game of Magic, it works in the way pskinn01 said and the game ends in a draw for all players.

Here is the relevant rule for limited influence games.

104.4f In a multiplayer game using the limited range of influence option, if the game somehow enters a loop of mandatory actions, repeating a sequence of events with no way to stop, the game is a draw for each player who controls an object thats involved in that loop, as well as for each player within the range of influence of any of those players.

TheRedMage is correct in that limited range of influence is a relatively obscure rule set to use. I just figured it would be worth including in the answer.pskinn01 answered correctly the first time. I just figured why not mention the exception to the general rule.

Oh so it's only for multiplayer games using a limited range of influence, I got ya. I thought this was applying to FFA.
