Does Favored Hoplite's heroic trigger also prevent it from being destoyed?

Example: My opponent casts a Hero's Downfall and targets Favored Hoplite . I cast an Instant spell targeting my hoplite in response. Since the Heroic effect is triggered, does this prevent the Hoplite from being destroyed? Is the destruction effect from Hero's Downfall considered a form of damage which can be prevented by the Heroic trigger?

No, it doesn't stop your Hoplite from dying. Damage is a number, like 3 damage from Lighting Strike or damage dealt in combat. Destroy spells don't do damage,they just destroy.
