Does a creature die if I buff it and then my opponent de-buffs it in response?

Say I have a 1/1 like Pharika's Chosen. If I play a Titanic Growth on it, then my opponent plays a Cower in Fear on it, would the order of the stack cause it to become a 0/0 and die, or would it become a 4/4?

The last spell cast resolves first, so in this case, the Cower in Fear would take effect first, killing the Pharika's Chosen, then the Titanic Growth would try to give it +4/+4, but find that it's target is no longer on the battlefield and be countered.

I believe in this situation, where your opponent plays a Cower in Fear on your Pharika's Chosen in response to your casting Titanic Growth on the same Pharika's Chosen, the Cower in Fear would resolve first and your creature would die due to having 0 toughness, leaving Titanic Growth to resolve without a valid target (the card it targeted is in the graveyard).
