Do I have priority?

Asked by Wbg1415 2 years ago

I have Lightning Greaves already in play from previous turn. I cast Krenko, Mob Boss and spell resolves. Opponent casts a Path to Exile targeting Krenko. Can I respond by equipping Krenko with my greeves? All of this occurs during my main phase.

Technically speaking, you have priority to do something before your opponent is even able to cast Path to Exile. That means you can try to equip greaves before your opponent can remove your commander. In response, however, before the greaves equip ability resolved, they can path Krenko. Since equip is a sorcery speed ability, you can’t try to equip Krenko again in response. Only attach (like Neurok Stealthsuit) can be used at instant speed.

In theory, yes. After any ability or spell is put on the stack (with a few exceptions), its controller has priority--but they must pass it before the spell has resolved. Each other player will gain priority in APNAP (activate player/non-active player) order. But as Lanzo493 said, the Equip ability is sorcery-speed. Also, one key thing to know about sorcery-speed effects is that they can't just be activated at any time in your main phase--the stack must be empty as well.
