Do creatures that die with Anafenza get exiled?

Asked by Iceygod 8 years ago

If Anafenza, the Foremost died in combat with an opponent's creature(s). Would the creature in combat with anafenza be exiled?

If a creature dies at the same time as Anafenza then it would still be exiled. Her ability replaces the movement to the graveyard which applies before anything actually goes to the graveyard.

Yes. A replacement effect (has "as/with/instead/prevent" somewhere in the text) has to exist right before an event would happen in order to affect that event. Right before Anafenza and the other creature died Anafenza was on the battlefield, which means her ability existed at the appropriate time.

Also worth noting that in Magic "die" literally means: "is put into it's owner's graveyard from the battlefield," so while Anafenza, the Foremost is out no creatures your opponents control can technically "die."

The above answer is still correct, it's just the use of the term die that's a bit of a misnomer.
