Dimir Doppelganger & Evil Twin

Asked by bjb119 9 years ago

What would happen if I used Dimir Doppelganger's ability to copy an Evil Twin? i.e. Would I be able to have the Dimir Doppelganger become a copy of an opponent's creature in play, kill it using Evil Twin's ability, and then have the Doppelganger become a copy of the opponent's creature? Thanks!

Unless you have a static ability buffing your creatures, your Dimir Doppelganger/Evil Twin would be a 0/0 and would die as a state-based action before you could do anything. Evil Twin's copy effect only works as Evil Twin is entering the battlefield. Dimir Doppelganger is already on the battiefield, so it will effectively become a vanilla 0/0 and die.

And if you did have a static buff keeping it alive, your Dimir Doppelganger still wouldn't be able to copy anything using Evil Twin's copy effect.

You could, however, still use Dimir Doppelganger's copy ability to copy other things in graveyards in the future, and if for some reason, somebody else played an Evil Twin without choosing to copy something else, yours could still use the Evil Twin ability to kill it.

It really doesn't do anything good for you either way.

@Devonin: Note that Evil Twin gains the "Destroy..." ability as part of the copy effect. If that copy effect is somehow never applied then it doesn't have the ability.
