Dance of the Skywise and combat steps

Asked by Argy 8 years ago

My Opponent declares that s/he is moving to combat then declares attackers and attacks with Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger.

In order for me to prevent being milled 20 cards do I need to cast Dance of the Skywise targeting Ulamog at the moving to combat step, or can it be cast once attackers have been declared?

Dance of the Skywise can only target a creature you control. For something like Ovinize, you need to do it doing the enter combat step at latest.

The very last moment you can cast Dance of the Skywise before having to exile the top 20 cards (Milling is an unofficial term for putting cards from your library into your graveyard), is at the end of the beginning of combat step where there is a round of priority and each player may cast a spell or activate abilities.

The moment the active player has gone to the declare attackers step, you do not have priority until all creatures, if any, are declared as attackers at which time any relevant triggered abilities immediately happen and then resolve regardless of what happens to their source after triggering.

Oops. Yeah, as merrowMania pointed out, this can't even happen as described. But my rulings are still correct. Just replace Dance of the Skywise with Snakeform or something. x3
