Asked by syilphion 9 years ago

if i copy Fated Infatuation which target Meletis Charlatan using the ability of Meletis Charlatan on my turn

how much scry 2 i got? (i just copy it once)

do i get 2 scry 2, or just 1 because second infatuation is not casted

You scry 2 then scry 2. Fated Infatuation does not specify that you must cast the spell for that part to take effect, the copy is created on the stack and that copy also says "If it's your turn, scry 2."

Alternatively, look at Return to Dust , which does say "If you cast..." If a copy of that spell is made on the stack that criteria would not be met and you would only get the first part of the spell.

thank you,a little bit question, if i want to counter the card copied, do i need to destroy Meletis Charlatan before its ability resolve, or need to use Stifle , or just counter it using Cancel or Swan Song ??

Destroying Meletis Charlatan after his ability has been activated but before it resolves has no effect on the resolution of the ability. Once an ability is on the stack it is independent of the source that created it and if it is somehow dependent on its source the game will "look back" and use the "last known information."

112.7a Once activated or triggered, an ability exists on the stack independently of its source. Destruction or removal of the source after that time wont affect the ability. Note that some abilities cause a source to do something (for example, Prodigal Pyromancer deals 1 damage to target creature or player) rather than the ability doing anything directly. In these cases, any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source because the effect needs to be divided checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, it will check that information when it resolves. In both instances, if the source is no longer in the zone its expected to be in at that time, its last known information is used. The source can still perform the action even though it no longer exists.

Once Meletis Charlatan 's ability is on the stack you can counter it with an effect that says "counter target activated ability" such as Stifle or Voidslime . Once his ability resolves it creates a spell on the stack that you can counter with an effect that says "counter target spell" such as Cancel or Counterspell .

In the future please start another Q&A when asking new questions. This one is marked resolved so not many people are gonna check it, and if people are searching for an answer they won't see this question being asked.
