Can you recast zombies with Gisa and Geralf?

Asked by TheLordStormCrow 7 years ago

If i have a Gisa and Geralf on board, and a zombie in my graveyard and I use Gisa and Geralf's second ability to cast it, can I sacrifice it, and recast it in the same turn using the ability?

No. The ability says "During each of your turns, you may cast a zombie creature card from your graveyard." The ability allows you to cast a singule card on each of your turns. Once you cast a zombie creature card from your graveyard, you can no longer cast zombie creature cards from your graveyard for the rest of the turn.

I suspect part of your question comes from the idea that by casting the zombie and sacrificing it, you're putting the same physical card back into your graveyard. However, when a card changes zones in Magic, it becomes a new object. Even if you return the same physical card to your graveyard, the game will treat it as a different object than the card you cast previously.

What about with a Sorcery or instant on main phase 2? Couldn't you regenerate then?
