Can you Flip Tibalt from Valki using Grenzo?

Asked by Sultai_Sir 3 years ago

I was wondering if you can cast Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor if you flip Valki, God of Lies  Flip using Grenzo, Dungeon Warden. I know you can cascade into Tibalt instead of Valki, but Grenzo, Dungeon Warden has a different clause, with put, instead of cast. So does this work? Thanks!

Tibalt is not a creature and Grenzo is only looking for creatures with a power and toughness.

When searching for a card or putting one into play, you only consider the front face. Grenzo will let you put Valki, God of Lies  Flip into play, but not Tibalt. If an effect lets you play or cast a modal double face card, though, you can play any side that matches the effect. For example, casting Electrodominance at X=8 would let you cast either side from your hand, but at X=4 you could only cast the Valki side. However, if you picked something like Kazandu Mammoth  Flip to cast from Electrodominance, you could only play the front side because you don't cast lands.
